LSU Tigers – Coaches Leading LSU to the National Championships
Life is about competition. We work our way to meet our goals. It is not an easy ride but it is something that we must do in order to progress. Everyday we go to school to be competitive in our future jobs. In our everyday jobs, we work our way to get a promotion and a salary raise. However, we do not do it alone. There will always be people who will take part in keeping us on track with our everyday challenges just to reach the end goal. Sometimes, those people are whom we call our guardians, our parents, our counselors or even our life coach.
In sports, whether team or individual, there will always be one person or more to watch out for the team. Of course, they do not act as a police patrol to keep reprimanding the team what not to do. However, they are there to discipline, train and keep the team on track with their goal to win the championship match in every league they join. One of the sports that have many coaches is football. A team full of big and tough men needs more than one person to handle them. However, there will be only one coach that manages the team overall and they are the head coaches.
Let us now look at the coaches of the LSU Tigers football team, who helped them win national championships.
1. Paul Dietzel- He led the team to win National Championships way back 1958. Coaching for this time was one of the best years he had. American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association of America named him National Coach of the Year at the time they won the National Championships. He loved the team so much and led them to become the number one in the country. He quoted, “I never considered going anywhere else because I thought LSU was the best coaching job in America”
2. Nick Saban- He was the head coach of the team from 2000-2004. He made history when he led the team to win their second National Championships in 2003.
3. Les Miles- He is the current head coach of the team. He has been helping the team to perform at their best whether it is nationals or just SEC championships. One of his greatest achievements was to lead the team to win the BCS National Title Game last year. It is one of the most important events in the history of LSU Tigers as he made this team the only team to win two BCS national championship titles.
In the field of sports, coaches play a vital role in winning. They can see through the strengths and weaknesses of every player and use that to create a successful play. You can love the most valuable player in the team but in the hearts of the players, they know they were not alone in winning. Great football coaches serve different teams across America and it happened that LSU was blessed enough to make great college football history with their coaches.

Nigeria Vs Liberia – 2nd Leg of All African Games Qualifier Preview
The Nigerian Olympic team which popularly called the Dream team V will be in action next weekend against the Liberian U-23 National football team in the 2nd leg of the All African Games Qualifier. The game comes up at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City Nigeria.
The 1st leg of the encounter which was played at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Complex on Saturday 16th April 2011 saw both sides settling for a 1-1 with Nigeria opening scoring in the 33rd minute of the encounter through the penalty spot, after Leicester City forward Daniel Uchechi was fouled in the penalty area. He summoned enough mental strength to convert the opening goal to the delight of the few traveling supporters.
The Nigerians who were missing some of their big stars had before the encounter protested the ill treatment meted out to them by the Liberian Football Federation prior to the game. The opening goal by the Nigerian Olympic team spurred a spontaneous reaction from their Liberian counterpart desperate to impress their home fans who had come to cheer them to victory. The pitch was however not helping their course, as it was not in the best of conditions.
Their persistence however paid off in the 63rd minutes when attacking midfielder Johnson Samuel scored the needed equalizer via a stunning header in the 63rd minutes of play. The host would have snatched all three points in the dying minutes of the second half after they were awarded a penalty kick. Hero of the U-17 team that won gold at South Korea in 2007 Oladele Ajiboye pulled off a decisive safe to deny what would have been the winning goal.
He was however replaced by few minutes to the end of the game when he got injured by a Liberian player Ronaldinho. The referee whistle brought reprise to Coach Austin Eguaveon who was much tensed throughout the encounter. The reverse fixture promises to be a cracker considering the importance of the encounter to the Dream team V aspiration. The U-23 team will have the advantage of playing at home before the ever vociferous Nigeria supporters club.
One thing that would go in favor of the Dream team is the huge talent available to the technical team. Rabiu Ibrahim, Nnamdi Odumadi, Ekigho Ehiosun, Ibok Edet and Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye would likely start the game that promises to be exciting and entertaining. The Governor of Edo State Comrade Adams Oshiomole is expected to be the special guest of honor during the game.

Who Are the New Orleans Saints Football Team?
The Uphill Struggle To Become A Successful Football Team!
First there was Hurricane Katrina with all its devastation, rendering New Orleans a “ghost town” for a short period of time. The citizens of the great City of New Orleans began to make their way back into the “Crescent City” and to rebuild their lives again from the heaps of ashes they found their very livelihood hanging. Each family clung to each other for hope and direction as they began to pick the pieces of their lives up and begin to rebuild again. Out of those ashes of devastation came a gift from the Most High above—a simple gift, in the form of a National Football Team, namely, “The New Orleans Saints.” And they proved time and time again to be saints on the field and off the field for the City of New Orleans.
A Football Team That Transformed An Entire City!
With most of the people working and trying to reestablish themselves back into their homes, in the back ground was one of the most phenomenal events to ever effect an entire city, the making of a Powerhouse National Football Team that would totally transform the people of the City. During the week the people worked but, when Sunday came, these amazing people became fans of the New Orleans Saints and they would leave all their battle scars and problems at home as they came and watched their beloved team play, and get this, WIN! That in itself was an accomplish for the team as they were once known as the “aints.”
America’s Team—The New Orleans Saints!
You may be thinking, How can this author portray New Orleans as “America’s Team?’ Simple, I was one of those who lost everything I owned in the midst of Katrina only to become a part of the great awakening that was brought about through a National Football Team that God utilized to bring hope and restoration to an entire City. If no else else agree’s with me, well, that’s alright by me cause I realize the tremendous part this Football Team played in the rebuilding of the “Crescent City.” We are the “WhoDat” Nation…..
The Regathering!
When Drew Brees brings the players together at the beginning of each game his chanting is a rallying for not only the victory the Saints will accomplish but for the rising of another stone in the Cities rebirth. Chant on Mr Brees, all the way to victory in the Super Bowl. Just as each piece of the puzzle was brought together, first came coach Sean Payton, then Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and the remainder of this great group of players who gave of themselves on and off the field to breath life back into the City of New Orleans. We’re back, and plan to remain atop the charts for a long time to come, “The New Orleans Saints.”

Dieting and Weight Loss
There is the possibility that in the near future there could be new fda approved diet pills. This is based on the fact that there are currently three medications that various companies are working on to have passed for the treatment of obesity. The names of the three front runners in this so called race are Qnexa, Contrave and Lorcaserin. What makes the first two proposed medications interesting is that they are actually just old medications used for differing ailments that are combined with one other drug. The resulting combination seemingly has a great weight loss effect. But for those who have been following the developments in these proposed drugs also know that they where already each denied by the FDA earlier and while each one is pressing on in an attempt to still bring theirs forth for approval. While there still is some hope for each one in eventually being approved, each maker of their respective products still know that it is a bit of an uphill battle that will require patience and perseverance. These drugs also come with a whole array of opinions on not only there usefulness but their need, side effects and overall consequences of people thinking they can just lose weight by taking a pill.
George Steinbrenner Coached Ohio State Football With Woody Hayes & Won a National Championship
George Steinbrenner is famously known the world over as the owner of the New York Yankees but very few people realize that in the 1950s George Steinbrenner actually served as an assistant coach under legendary Buckeye icon Woody Hayes at Ohio State University (OSU for short). In fact, George was even part of the 1954 Ohio State national championship team that went undefeated.
The New York Yankees organization that Steinbrenner has owned for decades has been valued by Forbes magazine as a $1.5 billion organization which makes it one of the five most valuable sports teams in the world across all sports. Before making his fortune in the family shipping business he lived a somewhat pedestrian life that included college, a stint in the Air Force, marriage, and a brief spell as an assistant football coach at Ohio State. In some regards George Steinbrenner has had an almost Forest Gump type life that has involved playing on his college football team, joining the armed forces, falling in love, making a fortune, numerous chance encounters with historically iconic figures, and a variety of unique business ventures.
Born in Rocky River, Ohio on the northern edge of the state the area that is now an affluent suburb of Cleveland is the area where George grew up before attending a military school in northern Indiana. After graduating from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1952 and spending a couple of years in the Air Force based in Columbus, Ohio at Lockbourne Air Force Base the Ohio native decided to stay in the area following his honorable discharge in 1954. Over the next two years Steinbrenner earned a master’s degree in physical education from nearby Ohio State University.
While doing graduate work at Ohio State George Steinbrenner signed on to help the football team as a graduate assistant where he happened to coach under legendary college football coach Woody Hayes. During the one season that George was with the Buckeyes the team went undefeated with a perfect 10-0 record that included a 20-7 Rose Bowl victory over the University of Southern California (USC) on January 1, 1955.
By capping off a perfect season with a sound Rose Bowl victory Woody Hayes, George Steinbrenner, and the rest of the Ohio State Buckeyes edged out number two ranked UCLA to capture the second football national championship for the Buckeyes ever. In addition to the seven World Series victories (1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009) that George Steinbrenner has been a part of as an owner of the New York Yankees since January 3, 1973 the man who was born back on July 4, 1930 can also claim a college football national championship from the 1954 season with iconic College Football Hall of Fame coach Woody Hayes.

Why the Mighty Teams Fail at the Pop Warner and AYF National Championships
Stumbling Gorillas
At both the AYF and Pop Warner National Championships there are many very good youth football teams that have dominated their opponents throughout the season. Several coaches I spoke to quoted their impressive records and point totals that bordered on the absurd. One coach was 15-0 with a 510-6 point total, another was 14-0 with a 456-14 point total.
While this isn’t necessarily the rule, there were plenty of teams that for whatever reason had ruled their fiefdoms with an iron fist and had experienced very little adversity prior to the tournament. Several coaches told me they had not punted at all the entire season, several others mentioned they had punted 2 times or fewer. At least 30 coaches said they had not trailed in a game all year. I like to call these teams “gorilla” teams, they rule the jungle and have no legitimate threat to their control of their jungle. They dominate their competition and many times they face teams that are defeated mentally before they ever take the field, due to the gorilla teams appearance or the gorilla teams reputation.
However, when most gorilla teams get to Florida, they find there are other gorillas just as talented as themselves who have little or no fear of facing other gorillas. I saw one gorilla Pee Wee team at the Pop Warner tournament, seemingly well coached on both offense and defense and with very good athletes, struggle to move the ball against another gorilla team. On their first punt, they barely got it off and it went just 12 yards, giving their opponent very good field position. On their next punting situation- 4th and 6 from their own 40, they decided to go for it and didn’t make it. On the next possession on 4th and 7 they booted a 14 yard kick. On another possession, they had 4th and 9 and faked the punt, it was an awful attempt, both the kicker and the player they were short snapping to were just a yard apart, it fooled no one and the snap was bad, the other team recovered and went in to score. On their last punting situation, they were 4th and 11 from their own 20 yard line. Since they punted so poorly and their fakes were just as bad, they decided to go for it and were stuffed to seal their fate.
The Kicking Game
This game was being played on one side of the field for the entire game due to poor punting of the one team and pretty good punting by the opponent. The opposing team was consistently getting 30 yards on their punts or were just going for it on fourth down because of the field position they had. The winning team was able to take a few more chances due to field position, whereas the losing team couldn’t dig very deep into their playbook. In the end the punting game was the deciding factor in this game which was decided by one touchdown.
Neither team was able to move the ball very well, but on each exchange the one team was gaining 20 yards or more of field position, which in the end won them the game. It was very obvious the losing team had not punted much during their season if at all. They didn’t need to, but they had obviously failed to perfect it for the day they might need it.
The same is true of some blocking scheme adjustments. Like any youth football league with about 100 teams, our league has very good teams, good teams, average teams and poor teams, the coaching runs the gamut. Depending on the schedule, we may have a good number of teams where we can run our base 12-14 plays with our regular blocking rules and schemes and win handily if we execute well and our players technique and effort are near potential. However there are always teams that are bigger, faster and better than us on the schedule, if not during the regular season, then in the playoffs or when we play out of conference in tournaments. Against the teams you bully, things like traps, influence plays, false pulls, wrong waying, key breaker plays or screens may not be effective at all. When you play teams that have players that do not play aggressively or are not coached well, those type of plays or tactics often times fail miserably, because those players are going to respond and play differently than well coached or aggressive players. The danger is, once you run a wrong way pull or key breaker play and it doesn’t work well against the weaker team, the coaching staff and players lose confidence in the play or adjustment and it is either put on the backburner or tosses altogether.
Rule Problems
In many leagues the rules also prevent you from developing your teams for title runs. Many leagues mercy rules prevent you from working and developing aspects of your game that you will need once you are playing on a bigger stage. There are very few teams that are winning National Championships without a legitimate pass threat or great special teams. I’m not talking about going Air Raid and throwing 70% of the time, I’m talking about being able to threaten the field with the potential of a completed pass that will net 20 yards or more. In many leagues once you are up by 3-4 touchdowns you are not allowed to throw the football. These mercy rules are well intended and needed in many places where coaches are out of control, but they can also hinder team development.
What to do? If you think your team can be a league or National Title contender, you have to perfect parts of the game that you may not need until you face another gorilla. You MUST perfect those parts of the game you didn’t need to beat the weaker or average opponent with, that means committing practice time to it. If you have a title contending youth football team, you may need to play a game within a game. To work on your punting game, when ahead by 3-4 scores, go ahead and punt on third down to get the practice. In games where you feel confident your team has the upper hand, start throwing the ball earlier than you normally do or on downs you normally wouldn’t throw the ball on. Use your influence or false pulls/wrong waying even though your base plays are working extremely well. Keep the end goal in mind which is not only beating your opponent today, but winning the last game against another gorilla. If you are controlling the game on offense, put your weaker players in earlier on defense to keep the score differential tight enough not to go into mercy rule so you can work on your offense and special teams. I don’t get caught up in the final score, I could care less about shut outs, my goal is to prepare the team to it’s full potential and to win that final big game.
Coaching
To win on the big stage, in most cases you are going to need all the tricks in your bag to beat the other gorillas in the jungle. Before every game take a few moments off to the side away from everything to think about your end goals, don’t get caught up in the moment and excitement of the game that day. Write some of the things you need to work on, on your play sheet to help remind you. My game three sheet said: Punt, Wrong, Burst 43 G, Buck, Smoke Pass, all things we were going to need later in the season. There were spots in that game where I was able to work in all five of those points of emphasis. When you get to that final game you will be glad you invested the time to fully prepare for that opponent, often times it will be the difference maker.

NFL Ticket Prices Don’t Cool Fan Fervor
Discussed with equal vigor in boardrooms and bars and among fans and casual viewers alike, NFL ticket prices are an exciting example of economics in work. The National Football League, home to ‘America’s Game’, has enjoyed immense success since the merger of the American Football League into the NFL in 1969. The league consists of thirty-two teams in two conferences with each conference then divided into three divisions with either four or five teams in each division. The teams span a range of what’s referred to as large-market, mid-market, and small-market cities; the demographics of the cities determine which market description applies and roughly equates to a combination of population and television coverage.
At the top of the heap are the large-market teams such the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears: These teams average among the highest in terms of ‘average ticket price’; the average of all available ticket prices for their home stadiums. For the 2007-08 NFL season the Patriots had the highest overall average at just a hair under $118 per ticket; this average price is more than $27 higher than the second most expensive average ticket which belongs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Not surprisingly, the Patriots and Buccaneers had the highest percentage increase from the 2006-07 Season as each team’s average price increased by more than 24%. The Bears have the third-highest average price at $88.33, followed by the Giants at $88.06, the Jets at $86.99, and the Cowboys at $84.12. By contrast, the NFL average for the 2007-08 season was $72.20. Mid and small-market teams such as the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and Buffalo Bills had the lowest average price. Each team’s average ticket price comes in below $60 with the Bills at just $51.24.
Another measure of NFL ticket prices are the average premium ticket price. Premium ticket prices are a bit harder to define as these tickets may include luxury seating, preferred parking, and other amenities which vary greatly from team to team and stadium to stadium. Measured against this metric, the Patriots still come out on top with an average premium ticket price of $567. The Jets are a distant second at $390 and the Bills, with the lowest average ‘regular’ ticket price have an average premium price at $160.
Perhaps the best overall measure is based on the Fan Cost Index (FCI), a measure that consists of of four average tickets, two beers, four soft drinks, four hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs, and two adult-sized caps. This measure is more indicative of a total spend at a NFL game and, once again, the New England Patriots top the scales at $596 for a family of four. The Chicago Bears, in keeping with their second-place finish behind the Patriots in the ‘average’ ticket price, are second with an FCI of $484. The NFL average FCI is just under $400 for a family of four.
NFL ticket prices have increased roughly 5% year over year but twenty-three teams announced price freezes for the 2008-09 year. Most of the teams who have announced ticket prices have done so to support new infrastructure initiatives or other expenses related to their teams. While fans will continue to debate their relative worth, it’s clear NFL tickets will continue to sell.

The Winningest Quarterbacks in New England Patriots History
The New England Patriots are one of the more successful teams in the National Football League. Much of that team success though has come during the last two decades. Before that, there were some up and down years in the history of the franchise.
From the quarterback position, the team has usually had some pretty good stability. Many of the quarterbacks have stayed for a number of years and been fairly successful. Who though are the New England Patriots quarterbacks with the most wins? Here are the top three through the end of the 2009 season.
#1 – Tom Brady
Ever since Tom Brady has stepped onto the field for the Patriots, the entire organization has had a new persona. He, along with head coach Bill Belichick, has helped this team become one of the best in the league. During that time, he has put up 97 wins as a starting quarterback.
#2 – Steve Grogan
Steve Grogan was the starting quarterback through a number of different phases in Patriots history. He was a rookie in the mid 1970′s, when the team was still coming out of the transition from the American Football League, and had some surprising success. His Patriots teams of the early 1980′s left a lot to be desired in the minds of their fans. By the mid 1980′s, he had helped the team reach the Super Bowl. He retired following the 1990 season with 75 career victories for the team.
#3 – Drew Bledsoe
Drew Bledsoe came along as the number one pick overall by the Patriots in 1993. He had starred in college at Washington State University and showed a lot of promise. He was very successful and put up very good numbers, despite not always having the best talent around him. He even helped get the team to a Super Bowl. He left the team following the 2001 season after accumulating 63 wins in a Patriots uniform.

NFL Affiliates – Top NFL Advertisers – How Much They Spent Last Season and How They Make Deals
The National Football League has many corporate sponsors. When you sit down and watch a Sunday night game, you will likely see hundreds of ads both discreet and in your face. Most of the time, you see repeats too. We all know that the automobile, soft drink, and beer industries do the best as NFL affiliates. But who made it to the top last year? Of course, it is a beer company.
1. Anheuser-Busch (A-B inBEv) spent about $134 million dollars total.
2. The US Government (including General Motors) came in second spending about $127 million in total.
3. Toyota was third with a $107.8 spent.
4. Ford spent about $97 million.
5. The NFL itself put in about $97 million for advertisements last year.
6. Miller Coors spent about $88 million total.
7. Sprint Nextel Company put in about $82 million.
8. Southwest Airlines spent about $66 million last year.
9. Verizon Wireless spent around $64 million.
10. And AT&T came in number ten spending about $64 million dollars on ads during the NFL 2009 season.
So how do these affiliates make deals? Well check out some of the advertising deals made in previous years.
o Beer: In 2005, it was agreed that Coors Brewing Co. would pay a total of $500 million over a five year period to become the NFL’s official beer sponsor. This was a 67% increase from the previous year’s deal. On an annual basis, the NFL takes in about $70 million for advertising.
o Soft drinks/snacks: the PepsiCo is spending over $1 billion on two major deals with the NFL. They are paying $560 million for Pepsi, Frit-Lays, and Tropicana to be advertised and an additional $500 million for Gatorade ads, all which will expire in February of 2011.
o Apparel: Beginning back in 2002, Reebok made a 10-year agreement with the league to pay $250 million in order to be the official outfitter of the NFL.
o Cars: Every year, General Motors pays out at least $140 million to be NFL’s official car of choice. This four year deal which was signed back in 2005 split the vehicle status between three NFL periods. GMC trucks would be advertised during the regular season, Cadillac during the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, and of course the Hummer during the NFL Draft.
