National Football
Football, As Quickly Explained
The number of players, their positions and the rules of the game were more or less the same with different types of football, such as college football, the NFL, and European NFL. Although there may be some types, like the Arena and Canadian football that are a bit different, but relatively, the regulations on how to play the game is most likely the same.
So talking about how football is being played, let us go back to the basics, and review, what each of these players really do, each of their responsibilities, and each role they need to play, once the game starts.
First, let us recall how many players are allowed to enter and thus play in the field. Of course, each team should have their offensive and defensive players, although, as we obviously know, these two divisions from a single team cannot play at the same time, since only 11 players from a team are allowed to play for each, plus, it is obviously not possible.
So how does the game flows? On one side is the offensive team; while on the other side is the defense. The game starts with a kickoff, wherein a placekicker kicks the ball towards the offensive team, while the offense will try to catch the ball, and afterwards advance the ball by running it. So the action starts from there.
The team who has the possession of the ball is called the offensive team, while the other, which is the defense, tries to disrupt the play by making their opponent to give up the ball. If they are successful, the two teams switch roles, the defense becomes the offense, and the offense becomes the defense. Same process goes until they reach the end of the fourth quarter, and from then, will know who won the game.
A football game is played in four quarters, allotting 15 minutes for each quarter. It has a 12 minute break at half time, or at the end of the 2nd quarter. While in the end of the 1st and 3rd quarter, there is an allotted 2-minute break for the 2 teams to change ends of the field. If there is a tie at the end of the 4th quarter, there will be 15-minute overtime.
So let’s move on to the players. As earlier mentioned, there are 2 teams that got to play at the football field, namely the offense and the defense team.
The offense team is headed by a quarterback, and the rest of the team includes the center, 2 guards and 2 tackles, wide receivers, running backs and tight ends.
The quarterback is the one who leads the whole offense and primarily outlines the play for his team. Once the center snaps the ball to the quarterback, the latter either pass the ball to his receivers or hands it off to his running back. The guards and the tackles who serve as the offensive linemen, protect their quarterback or running back by preventing the defensive linemen to reach them thus disrupting their play. The tight end’s role is also to block the defense and he is allowed to catch passes as well, but in short yardages only.
So, after a short and plain discussion about the offensive team, let us move to the other side, which is the defensive team. The defensive team is composed of the linebackers, the nose guard, the defensive ends and defensive tackles, the cornerbacks and the safeties.
The role of the defensive team is to stop or prevent the offense from reaching, thus advancing to the defense’s end zone. The linebacker is the one assigned to defend their territory by either stopping of tackling the quarterback. The 2 defensive ends and 2 tackles, which is known to be the defensive linemen battles with the offensive linemen of the other team. The cornerbacks cover the wide receivers from catching the pass of the quarterback. The safety’s job is to stop the runner if it get pass through the linebacker and the defensive linemen. While the nose guard’s job is to block the center, and also to help the defensive tackles to stop the run.
So these two teams fight with all the force, action and stamina they’ve got, until they reach the end and find out who won the battle.
Indeed, football is such a great sport to watch and to admire, and especially if you know every corner of it, it brings you more energy and urge to continue and pursue your devotion and love for the sport.

Learn How to Bet on Football
Football season is high season for bettors and Vegas alike. With so many college games and of course the NFL, there is almost always a game to bet on from September through January.
Since sportsbooks recognize the appetite to bet on football, there is no shortage of ways to bet on football.
Betting the Point Spread
Wagering on the point spread is by far the most popular way to bet on football.
The point spread is a number the odds-makers come up with in order to level the playing field of the two opposing teams. Basically, the favored team will be spotting the underdog a certain amount of points. In order for those who bet on the favorite to win their wager, the favorite must win the game by more than the point spread. If the favorite wins the game by fewer points than the point spread or lose the game altogether, those that wagered on the underdog would win their bet.
Here is an example of how to bet the point spread on a football game. Let’s say the Colts are seven point favorites versus the 49ers. If you backed the Colts (-7) they would have to win the game by at least eight points in order for your wager to be a winner. Conversely, if you bet on the 49ers (+7), the 49ers would need to lose the game by no more than six points to win the wager. If the 49ers ended up beating the Colts outright, the 49ers (+7) wager would also be a winner. Finally, if the Colts won the game by exactly seven points, the wager would be considered a ‘push’ and you would have you wager refunded, or ‘no actioned’.
Betting the Total
Also known as the over/under, the ‘total’ is a predicted number of combined points between two opposing football teams. You have the option of either betting the ‘over’ or the ‘under’. If you wagered on the ‘over’, the two teams must combine for more points than the listed ‘total’ in order for the wager to win. If you backed the ‘under’, the two teams can not combine to score more points than the listed ‘total’ in order to cash.
For example, a sports book has the ‘total’ for the Ravens vs. Steelers game at 38. If the two teams combine for 39 or more points, ‘over’ wagers will win while ‘under’ wagers would lose. However, if they combined for fewer than 39 points, ‘under’ wagers would win while ‘over’ wagers would lose. If the final combined total points fell on exactly 38 points, both ‘over’ and ‘under’ bets would be graded as a ‘push’ resulting in bets being ‘no actioned’.
Betting the Money Line
A third popular option for betting on football is the money line. When betting on the money line you are betting on a team to win the game outright, the final score does not matter.
Although this concept is as easy as it comes, understanding the odds associated with money line wagers are a lot different then the point spread. The favored team will have a minus (-) sign in front of a three digit number while the underdog will usually have a plus (+) sign in front of a three digit number.
Here is an example of how to bet on a football money line. The Dolphins are listed as the -160 favorite versus the Jets who are listed at +130. If you were going to back the favored Dolphins, you would win $100 for every $160 wagered as long as the Dolphins win. On the flip side, if you saw value in the underdog Jets, you’d win $130 for every $100 you wagered as long as they win the game outright.
Parlays and Teasers
There are plenty of other ways to bet on Football, including parlays and teasers.
Parlays – An attractive wager type for bettors looking to make a larger profit from a small or moderate sized bet, parlays are always a popular bet during the football season.
A parlay is a single wager which incorporates numerous games or selections. All of the selections must win in order for the parlay to be graded as a winner. Since all of the selections must win, the payouts become increasingly generous as more selections are added.
For instance, let’s say you make a $100 parlay on the Chargers -7 with the Patriots -3. If both of the games cover in your favor, you’d win $260, considering the usual payout for a two team parlay is 13:5.
As mentioned, the higher the number of teams in the parlay, the great the payouts. A ten team parlay, for example, pays out around 700:1 depending on the sportsbook. So for a $2 dollar wager, you could win $1400 if all 10 selections covered.
Teasers – Another word you’ll hear every week by those that bet on football is ‘teaser’..
Teaser bets are a single wager in which you pick at least two games and are permitted to change the spread or total in your favor by a certain amount of points.
Let’s say you want to do a 6 point teaser with the Raiders +10 points and the Bengals -3 points. By teasing each game by 6 points, you will now have the Raiders +16 points and the Bengals at +3 points. Since this is considered a single wager, both of these teased spreads must cover in order for you to win the bet.
Depending on the sports book, teasers are generally allowed for 6, 6 ½, or 7 points for football. Additionally, they often allow anywhere from two team teasers all the way up to 15 team teasers; again, depending on the sports book.
There you go sports fans, now you know the basics on how to bet on football.

Football Game Online – NFL on the Keyboard
The world of online games has passed many stages of evolution, which appears to go on endlessly. There are many forms of football games online. In the USA, the computer games based on the National Football League (NFL) are the most popular. Soccer, which is easily the most popular game on our planet, is not as popular as American Football in the USA. So, a majority of online football games in the country are based on the NFL.
Types Of Football Games Online
There are basically three types of NFL football games online. The first one is the exact simulation of the actual football game. This is basically a software application that allows the user to play the game in actual setting using various keyboard controls. The league in the game will be the same as the NFL with the same clubs and players. Even the appearance and playing style of the players are exactly simulated. The user can make the players on the computer do various actions on the football ground such as running, dribbling, passing, and tackling.
Minor variations of these games are also available as football games online. It involves specific aspects of the game such as running or passing. There are websites that allow various players to play these games against each other over the platform of the internet.
Another recent addition to the list of football games online is a type of fantasy game based on reality. It is known by typical names such as “NFL Manager”. This is a web-based game in which the users can select a particular team comprising the leading current players. Each current player will have a monitory value. There will be constraints on spending money and the composition of the team. If the players you have selected perform well on the actual NFL matches, you get points based on their performance. The person who gets the maximum points at the end of a season will be the winner of this fantasy game.

Football Betting – America’s Favorite Sport
Football is America’s favorite sport these days, so it should come as no surprise that wagering on football is the most common sport betting activity on the continent. Games in the National Football League, the minor leagues, college, and even some high school games will attract thousands of bettors each week. In this article, we are going to take a look at some fundamentals when it comes to betting on any football game.
What kind of bet can you make?
The most popular type of sports bet made on football games is the spread bet. Spread bets include an underdog and a favorite, and a certain amount of points a team must win or lose by in order for the bettor to collect. They look like this:
Chicago Bears -10.5 (-150)
New England Patriots (180)
Whether you are betting the money line (which we will get to in a second) or the spread, the team with a negative sign near it is always the favorite. Being the favorite means that the most people are placing bets on this team, which may or may not indicate their chances of winning. So, in the above scenario, the Bears are the favored team (haha!). This spread also indicates the amount of money wagered in order to win. Every bet of $150 on the Bears will collect $100 if the Bears beat the spread. Betting on the Patriots, on the other hand, means that you stand to gain $180 for every $100 that you bet.
The spread is favored in football because it carries an extra element of security. That security is represented by the -10.5 figure. This means that in order for people to collect on wagers placed on the Bears, Chicago must win by at least 11 points. If they only win by 9, those betting on the Patriots will win the bet (which means that underdog bets will still win, even if the underdog team actually loses). That extra .5 of a point is added so that there is no “push”, or tie, on the bets.
The second most popular type of sports betting action when it comes to football betting is wagering on the money line. This is your standard bet, where money is placed on one team to win. Money lines are expressed much the same as spreads, but without the points indicator. Generally, money lines cost more money to bet on the favorite in order to win $100 because a victory is easier to predict than a difference in points.
Other types of wagers in football betting:
There are quite a few different types of sports betting wager placed on football games, which can add some spice to your betting life. Over/under bets are placed according to the total amount of points both teams will score in a game. For example, a sports book might place the combined total score of a football game at 55. Bettors would then decide whether they thought the combined score would be over or under that total, and place wagers accordingly.
Futures, totals, squares, and parlays are all also popular in football betting.
How to bet on football games:
Keep in mind, when betting on football, that most sports bettors will win less than 50% of the time. This is because the sports books really know what they are doing, and play with the odds continuously and successfully.
However, a little bit of knowledge can go a long way in helping out one’s football betting record. There are services which can be of great assistance to those interested in all manner of sports betting, football betting included. Sports information lines in particular can assist bettors when it comes to finding good value bets and up to date information about the team they might want to bet on.

Only two teams can square off. Your team and the other guy’s team must have eleven players on the field at one time. Smaller football leagues use fewer than eleven guys.
The teams take turns playing offensive (trash talking is allowed), then playing defensive (cry baby guys are not allowed).
The offensive team possesses the ball until they score, or fail to gain 10 yards in four tries, or loses the ball to the defensive team.

Line of Scrimmage is an invisible field line where teams face each other. Now get this…
Both teams can have three specialized teams where players have one or more roles.
Here are a few roles…
I. The Specialized Offense Team must score or gain yardage to win. The Quarterback leader gets the ball from his Center man — his second brain. The QB throws the ball to a Receiver, or hands it to a Running Back or runs the ball himself (gutsy!). The Offense Line is five Mack trucks. They power protect the Passer, block, and leave tread marks on defense players’ backs. Running Backs have roles in running the ball, catching, blocking plus wrecking havoc on yardage. Wide Receivers catch zooming balls from the Quarterback. These guys have “superhero” speed plus they block, too. Tight Ends have two roles. They can perform as Wide Receivers or as Offensive Linemen who protect Quarterbacks and block for Runners. II. The Specialized Defense Team must stop opponents from scoring or gaining yardage. The Defensive Line has 3 to 6 “massive giants” blocking the sun and creating darkness and pain along the line of scrimmage. Linemen (“monster trucks”) roll over running backs. They crash test “sack” the quarterback before he passes or hands off the ball. Linebackers cause nightmares. They lurk behind the Defensive Linemen plus rush the quarterback or cover receivers. Defensive Backs with superhero speed cover receivers and stop zooming passes plus rush quarterbacks! III. The Specialized Special Team must score extra points. Got a funky leg and foot, kid? Become a punter or place kicker to get those game saving extra points. Long snappers need pinpoint skills, too.

NFL Super Bowl
Now that the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl is around the corner, it’s high time you procure your tickets as soon as possible. Planning an international sports vacation with friends or family has actually become easier with several websites offering every kind of facility needed to make your trip safe, easy and comfortable.
Historical Facts about NFL Super Bowl
Held for the first time in 15th January, 1967 in Los Angeles, California, the event was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. This is because the championship was the result of an agreement between the American Football League (AFL) and the NFL that the leagues would compete in a football game till their merger was achieved. The leagues merged in the 1970s to become a ‘conference’.
The term ‘Super Bowl’ was coined by Lamar Hunt, the ex-owner of the Kansas City Chiefs and founder of the AFL; after observing his children play with a Super Ball. This sensational American sports event has adopted a unique identification style. Instead of identifying the games by the year it is held, numerals are used. The games series begin a year before the Finals games takes place. For instance, the champions of 2009 regular season will be decided in the Finals of 2010.
The Dallas Cowboys have participated in the largest number of games till date (8). With 6 victories to their credit, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been more victorious here, as compared to other conferences. The NFL has 32 teams out of which 17 have triumphed in at least one Championship Game. Only the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions had won the NFL championship cups before it was even known in its present guise. The New Orleans Saints, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans have joined the league soon after.
Facts about NFL Super Bowl 2010
The 44th annual NFL Super Bowl will be held in Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on February 7, 2010. The year 2010 will be the tenth time when this event will be hosted by South Florida. The Championship has been held in the Dolphin Stadium five times already. Other times the game was played at the Orange Bowl.

Football – The Best Sport in America
When I was little I never liked football because my dad would always watch it and I never could get his attention. As I grew up my dad convinced me to give it a try and go out for the team. From that day on I grew to love football. It was tough at first learning everything, I mean when you don’t know what is going on then you tend to lose interest.
When I first watched a football game on TV I was really confused on how they moved that yellow line so fast. It wasn’t until I asked my dad, he laughed and explained to me that it wasn’t really there. That was all I needed, all the other stuff just fell into place for me. Game after game it got more exciting for me. I couldn’t get enough of it. There is so many things that make football so great. I mean for any one who likes to see someone get knocked the heck out almost every game then football is that. Did you know that an average football player who plays a game it is the same as being in three car accidents. So as far as thrill is concerned football has what it takes.
But the very best thing about football has got to be the cheerleaders. I mean anytime the game gets boring you can just look over at the cheerleaders and it reminds you that this is really great. To see girls like that most time you have to pay for it. That was just a joke. But really, how awesome are the cheerleaders?
Well, that is all I have to say about football being the best sport ever. I challenge anyone to give it a chance and not like it.
Football has a lot to offer. What I mean by that is it teaches kids about working as a team and can also teach leadership as well as discipline. Which nowadays is a tough lesson to teach. That in its self is the biggest reason why this sport is so great.

Great Call by the National Football League
Last month’s blizzard that created snowfall in the South and the East Coast where Boston, New York (two cities that I want to visit in the near future) Philadelphia and Atlantic City, New Jersey (two of my favorite vacation destinations) each received over 10 inches of snow in a short time period. Not only that, but flights either leaving or going to the East Coast were delayed for a number of days, frustrating travelers who wanted to go home or had planned to go on vacation, leaving them stuck in at the airport for a few days until it was safe enough for the planes to take off.
The Decision
In the midst of the snowstorm, The Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to play the Minnesota Vikings on December 26 at 8:30 p.m. However, with the weather report saying that the snow was coming down fast and furious after 6 p.m. Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the National Football League, decided to postpone the game until December 28 at 8 p.m for the safety of the fans going to the game.
The decision did not sit well with the Governor of Pennsylvania, Edward Rendell, the former mayor of Philadelphia, who said that the United States has become a “nation of wusses” for canceling the game because of the snow.
I like Gov. Rendell and can see that he is a passionate sports fan, but he’s just plain wrong on this issue. The National Football League did not cancel the game for the snow, the commissioner moved the game to another night for the safety of the fans. Besides, the evening news report mentioned that by 7 P.M. there were nearly 100 minor auto accidents in the metropolitan Philadelphia area, so why put anyone in harm’s way by getting them hurt or even killed just because they were going to the football game. As a big sports fan, it would have great to see football played in the snow (no one was happier than me when the Minnesota Vikings recently played their first outdoor home game in the cold and snow against the Chicago Bears for the first time since December 1981, when they used to play their home game at the old Metropolitan Stadium (which is now The Mall In America) in nearby Bloomington, Minnesota. For those that don’t know, here’s the back story: The roof at the Metrodome, the Vikings home since 1982, collapsed because of the snow, leaving the team without a place for their home games. They have already played one of their scheduled “home” games at Ford Field in Detroit and decided to play a “real” home game for their fans.
Final Thoughts
I agree with the decision because you don’t want to be the person that has to live with the burden of letting the game go on as planned and someone ends up getting seriously injured or killed in a car accident. Even though, the National Football League could have moved the start time of the game to 1 P.M. or 4:15 that afternoon, it was the right call to move the game to Tuesday Night. In the end, it was a good investment for the NBC because the Tuesday Night telecast was the top rated show of the week.

National Football League (NFL) Football – A League Of Its Own
Certain activities define the character of a nation. Likewise, the National Football League (NFL) defines the American character probably more than anything else. Conceived as the American Professional Football Association in 1920, it soon adopted the name National Football League in 1922. Undoubtedly the largest of all professional football leagues in America, NFL is made up of 32 teams coming from numerous American regions and cities.
With seeds in the American college football genre, NFL football is a direct descendant of rugby football. Rugby football, in its turn, was imported to the US from Canada in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. In its infancy, it became synonymous with American college football with Montreal’s McGill University inviting Harvard University to Quebec to play the Canadian version of rugby football.
Meanwhile, professional American football was gaining momentum despite the renowned elite football college games. This was happening mainly on the East coast, while professional football was stealing the show in the Midwest. The American Professional Football Association was founded in Ohio with legendary athlete Jim Thorpe as President. It began with eleven teams and was not strictly a league. The main purpose was to end robbing other teams’ players to win a football game.
With the birth of NFL, rules became more stringent and laws began to be enforced. However, teams continued to trickle in and leave at the same pace. It was in the 1970′s and 1980′s that NFL football finally secured its position in the heart and culture of America as the most important football event of the nation. The Super Bowl, a name given to the final game in a NFL series, became an undeclared yet accepted national holiday.
What sealed the NFL football in every American’s heart was the cult it created. It was not only the game that mattered; it was the entire event, the entertainment, the TV coverage and everything that added to the glamour of the football series. To add further to the glitz, NFL introduced pre-season exhibition games. And to add a little more flavor the game, NFL opted to play them international. This came to be known as the American Bowls.
In 1991, it formed the World League of American Football with developmental purposes in mind. This body, presently known as the NFL Europa, has teams in Germany and Netherlands. In 2003, the NFL League launched its own cable-TV channel, the NFL Network.
