The Uphill Struggle To Become A Successful Football Team!

First there was Hurricane Katrina with all its devastation, rendering New Orleans a “ghost town” for a short period of time. The citizens of the great City of New Orleans began to make their way back into the “Crescent City” and to rebuild their lives again from the heaps of ashes they found their very livelihood hanging. Each family clung to each other for hope and direction as they began to pick the pieces of their lives up and begin to rebuild again. Out of those ashes of devastation came a gift from the Most High above—a simple gift, in the form of a National Football Team, namely, “The New Orleans Saints.” And they proved time and time again to be saints on the field and off the field for the City of New Orleans.

A Football Team That Transformed An Entire City!

With most of the people working and trying to reestablish themselves back into their homes, in the back ground was one of the most phenomenal events to ever effect an entire city, the making of a Powerhouse National Football Team that would totally transform the people of the City. During the week the people worked but, when Sunday came, these amazing people became fans of the New Orleans Saints and they would leave all their battle scars and problems at home as they came and watched their beloved team play, and get this, WIN! That in itself was an accomplish for the team as they were once known as the “aints.”

America’s Team—The New Orleans Saints!

You may be thinking, How can this author portray New Orleans as “America’s Team?’ Simple, I was one of those who lost everything I owned in the midst of Katrina only to become a part of the great awakening that was brought about through a National Football Team that God utilized to bring hope and restoration to an entire City. If no else else agree’s with me, well, that’s alright by me cause I realize the tremendous part this Football Team played in the rebuilding of the “Crescent City.” We are the “WhoDat” Nation…..

The Regathering!

When Drew Brees brings the players together at the beginning of each game his chanting is a rallying for not only the victory the Saints will accomplish but for the rising of another stone in the Cities rebirth. Chant on Mr Brees, all the way to victory in the Super Bowl. Just as each piece of the puzzle was brought together, first came coach Sean Payton, then Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and the remainder of this great group of players who gave of themselves on and off the field to breath life back into the City of New Orleans. We’re back, and plan to remain atop the charts for a long time to come, “The New Orleans Saints.”

PostHeaderIcon NFL Signs Football Deal With Nike

Nike has become the latest sports brand to take on the uniforms and fan apparel of the National Football League (NFL) in America. Rivals Reebok, who have worked in collaboration with the NFL for the past decade will not have their contract renewed when it ends in 2012.

The agreement was announced by the NFL in Chicago and provided the names of six other apparel partners. New Era Cap Co. has been announced as the official cap supplier and will handle on-pitch headwear as other companies will continue to provide fan clothes and headwear. Reebok executives had already admitted defeat to the American press before the deal was done and were not concerned that the lost bid would damage their company.

Over the past decade Reebok have been in partnership with the NFL and they will leave on amicable terms. They released a statement earlier this month crediting the partnership for doubling sales since working together. Though details are sketchy at the moment it is thought that Nike has been awarded a five year contract. The deal may seem like a massive loss for Adidas owned Reebok, but they have various sporting contracts in America that pull in big earnings. Adidas currently hold uniform rights to the National Basketball Association, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League.

Nike are already a prevalent site on the pitch, through its partnerships with individual players like Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and Drew Brees who plays for the New Orleans Saints. Nike already has on-field exposure rights for its football gloves, the swoosh logo can be seen on players football boots, and their advertisements feature heavily in television breaks.

The terms of the deal have not yet been confirmed, but Nike is already excited about the 5-year deal, which they expect will enhance the Nike brand and provide a “significant opportunity to drive growth across the business”.

PostHeaderIcon Super Bowl 2011 – Are You Ready?

The first ever Super Bowl was played on January 15, 1967 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This game was created as a part of a merger agreement between the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). Football fans were not really as enthusiastic about this big game as they are now, as they did not really realize the potential of such an event.

Initially, the main purpose for the Super Bowl was to determine the champion among the AFL and the NFL but now it represents so much more. This amazing game represents America’s determination to overcome and succeed against all odds.

Super Bowl I was played in 1967. The Green Bay Packers won the first ever game by defeating the AFL Kansas City Chiefs. The winning team was lead by quarterback Bart Starr who was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Next year, Arlington Texas will host the Super Bowl XLV. It will be held on the 6th of February 2011 and as usual, the champions of NFL will go up against the champions of AFL at the Cowboy’s Stadium. It will be the 45th edition of the championship game. This is going to be the first time that a Super Bowl will be held in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Black eyed peas will perform at the half time show of the Super Bowl XLV next year. This year, the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl but this does not necessarily mean that they will win next year too. There are very few teams, talented enough to win the Super Bowl consecutively. Let us look at some of the teams who have the potential to win next year. Let’s start with the AFC teams.

Last year, the New York Jets had one of the best defenses in the NFL. They trained hard and once they were in the playoffs, they showed everyone that they had what it took to win. The New York Jets have done the impossible; they have improved their defense. The New York Jets will be a tough team to beat.

Another impressive team is the San Diego chargers. They have one of the most talented teams; however, their coach Norv Turner leaves a lot to be desired. The question remains, are the San Diego Chargers talented enough to win even without good coaching?

Another good team is the Indianapolis Colts. To be honest, they are not the most talented team but they have Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. With Manning, the Colts have a very good chance of winning.

The NFC has very few teams that have the potential to win. Other than this year’s winning team, the New Orleans Saints, the only good team is the Minnesota Vikings.

There are other teams who, without doubt, could come out in the Super Bowl race next year but these teams are the favorites so far.

PostHeaderIcon The Saints – A Generation of Patience

For the New Orleans Saints, the Louisiana representative of the Southern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC), life in the National Football League (NFL) has been one long exercise in patience. Since their establishment as an expansion franchise in 1966, the Saints have been on an upward trajectory – but one with a very slight uphill grade. It took them more than ten years to manage a breakeven season, and another decade beyond that to finally have their first season with more wins than defeats. They didn’t manage a playoff victory until the 2000 campaign. Saints fans have had to endure far more downs than ups over the last four decades as their team struggled to find its place in an NFL dominated by concepts of parity, but throughout it all, patience has been the byword.

Wearing bags
There is no denying that the Saints have come a long way from the sad days of 1980 when the team managed to go down to defeat in each of their first fourteen games of the season. Things were so bad that the team’s fans took to covering their heads with paper bags during home games, in an attempt to show the disgust and shame that they felt over their team’s dismal performance. Oddly enough, the trend caught on with other teams as well, and is now a common sight in the stadiums of underperforming teams across the nation.

Katrina’s impact and the team’s comeback
As if the team didn’t suffer through enough disappointment, Hurricane Katrina’s arrival in New Orleans in 2005 severely disrupted both the city and the franchise. With the Superdome unfit for game play, the Saints spent the season on the road- a difficult prospect for even the best teams in the NFL. When the 2005 season ended with a 3-13 record, the entire franchise could only look forward to the following season and the hopes that they would once again be able to have real home games. As it turned out, the 2006 season was indeed a marked departure from the Saints’ past history of disappointing performances. After winning their Division and making it to the NFC title game, the Saints fell to the Bears. It was, however, a harbinger of better things to come.

The road to the Super Bowl
Of course, the Saints wouldn’t be the Saints if they didn’t take two steps back for every step forward. After their stellar 2006 season, they followed up with two mediocre seasons in a row before launching into the 2009 campaign. That season saw the team run out to a thirteen straight wins, finishing the season with a 13-3 record. Their victory in the NFC title game was their first ever, and propelled them into Super Bowl XLIV against the seemingly unstoppable Indianapolis Colts. The Saints, however, were not about to be kept from their first-ever NFL title, and went on to win the game in convincing fashion. For long-suffering Saints fans and players, it was a fitting reward for decades of patience.
