Feet should be about shoulder width, no wider than your shoulders. Feet should point straight ahead. Once your feet are set; drop into a squatting position and extend the down hand slightly inside the near foot, in front of your body. The body weight should be around 70% on feet/hips and 30% on your hand. O linemen need to explode from their legs while sinking hips and driving defender out of the play with a wide base (sink your hips sky your eyes). The arm/hand that is not on the ground needs to be ready for quick use. The arm should rest on the knee and hand should be in upright ready position. This allows the youth offensive lineman to jolt the defender with power coming from the hips up through the arms and hands (extend arms). Your shoulders should be square to the line of scrimmage and parallel to the ground. Your back should be flat. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!! Keeping your head up is vital to a solid youth football offensive lineman block, recognizing a blitz or stunt, and preventing injuries (look at what you are hitting!!!).

The main thing that an offensive coordinator or head coach tries to do is play to the team’s strength when running an offense. Occasionally you may want to sneak in a run play or maybe a reverse.

They are certainly some of the most exciting plays to watch. Of course to be able to pull off these plays you have to have players who are capable of doing it. X’s and O’s on paper are one thing, but having players who can execute those X’s and O’s is a completely different subject.
