Football – The Offense
The game of football features two teams going at each other. One team is on offense and the other team is on defense. We’re going to concentrate on the offensive players in this article and the role of each man.
The offense of a team is the key to scoring points. Without a well tuned offense a team doesn’t have a chance. That’s why each man in the offensive unit has to know his role and execute it to the best of his ability. This involves not only skill but also thinking on his feet. Football is a very technical game in many respects and if a player doesn’t have all the plays stuck up in his head, he’s not going to know how to react when a certain play is called.
The offense itself is actually run by the coach who calls the plays, even though he’s not on the field with his players. But on the field, the game is run by the quarterback. This is probably the most important position in the game of football. A good quarterback can mean the difference between winning and losing, especially in the final minutes. He’s the one who hands the ball off to the running backs on a run play or passes it to the receivers on a pass play. Everything falls on his shoulders.
The running backs, which are the halfbacks and fullbacks, are the ones who run the ball on run plays and help give protection to the quarterback on pass plays. They can also act as receivers on pass plays as well. Running backs need to be very quick on their feet. They also need to be strong in order to block for the quarterback. Running backs are probably some of the best athletes on the field.
The wide receivers and the tight ends are the ones who catch the passes thrown by the quarterback. There are a number of routes that these players need to run during the course of a game and each route has to be known beforehand. The routes themselves can be very complicated in an attempt to throw off the defense. Receivers have to be very fast in order to outrun the defense. They also need to have very good hands to catch a football.
The linemen, called guards and tackles, are there for two purposes. On pass plays they are there to provide pass protection for the quarterback so he can have enough time to get his pass off. On run plays they are on the line to create holes for the running backs to run through. In order to do both of these jobs linemen have to be very strong and very big. Some linemen are well over 350 pounds. When these guys hit you, you know you’ve been hit.
Rounding out the offense is the kicker. He is the one who either kicks the extra point after a touchdown is scored or tries for a field goal if the team is close enough to the goal line but not close enough to go for a touchdown. A kicker has to have very strong legs, as some of the kicks he has to try are from quite a few yards away.
For an offense to be effective, all the men on it have to work together. That’s what makes some offenses great and others not so great. It’s called teamwork.

Football – Offensive Strategy
The game of football is like a war between two generals, each one trying to out think the other. Bill Belichick is said to be one of the greatest defensive strategists of modern times while Mike Martz has a reputation for being an offensive wizard. In this article we’re going to discuss some basic football strategies and how offensive coordinators and head coaches try to out think the opposing defense.
The main thing that an offensive coordinator or head coach tries to do is play to the team’s strength when running an offense. Not every team is blessed with great running backs, a great quarterback and great receivers. The truth is, many of the weaker teams have very few great players, if any at all. However, regardless of how strong or weak your offense is, you’re going to have areas that are better than others. You need to concentrate on those areas and make the best of them.
For example, if your quarterback is your strongest part of the offense, even if you don’t have the best receivers, use him to his fullest. Maybe he’s got an uncanny ability to find open men quickly. In that case you’ll want to concentrate on your pass game. But, you have to evaluate your offensive line. If your blockers are poor or just average, your quarterback may not have enough time to pull off long passes, unless he is a quick scrambler. In this case you’ll want to execute a short passing game. Maybe some quick outs to your tight ends or even your backs.
However, if you continually concentrate on one part of your offense, eventually the opposition is going to catch on and they’ll adjust and be ready for you. This is why you ultimately have to establish a run game if you’re strong in passing or a passing game if you’re strong on running. You must have a balanced attack or your strengths will be shut down quickly.
Another thing an offensive coordinator must do is mix up his game plan. A few times on short yardage situations he should choose a short pass over trying to run the ball. This will keep the defense off balance and guessing. You don’t want to do this too often as again, they will begin to look for it. Same thing with long yardage plays. Occasionally you may want to sneak in a run play or maybe a reverse.
Some of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history have been trick or surprise plays. They don’t always work but when they do they are a sight to behold. They are certainly some of the most exciting plays to watch. Of course to be able to pull off these plays you have to have players who are capable of doing it. X’s and O’s on paper are one thing, but having players who can execute those X’s and O’s is a completely different subject.
This is why a good offensive coordinator is worth his weight in gold. Just ask Mike Martz if he’s had a successful career in football.

Football for Beginners
Football is a game that is played and loved my millions of Americans. It is also a sport that is popular in other countries as well. Canada and Europe each have their own league for the American style of football. However, not to many people truly know what is going one when they watch football.
Football is a game where two teams of 11 players each try to move a ball up and down the field to score points. Even though there are only 11 players for a team on the field at any given time, there are many more players than that on the team. An entire team is usually around 53 for the professionals. This is because there are many different positions that are needed to play the game.
The different positions are usually broken up into three different categories; offense, defense and special teams. The special teams will have punters, kickers, and place holders on them. They will also have a few guys that will specialize in just returning a kickoff.
The offense has a quarterback, linemen, running backs, receivers and tight ends. The defense will have the defensive line, linebackers and some kind of safeties. There are many different ways for both the offense and the defense to line up around the ball. The way that they will line up might be to try to confuse the other team as to what they are trying to do.
The offense’s job is to bring the ball down the field until they get to the end zone. When a player and the ball cross the end zone then that team will score 6 points. Then they will have the option of kicking a field goal for one extra point or trying to make a two point conversion. The length of the field is 120 yards but only 100 yards of it is used to play on. The other remaining 20 yards is split in half and is used for the end zone for each team.
There are a few other ways that you can score also in football. The next way to score is to kick a field goal. A field goal is when the kicker attempts to kick the ball through an upright. An upright is basically very similar to a fork with the middle prong missing. If he is able to get the ball to go through the post he will earn his team 3 points. The only other way for a team to score is to tackle the quarterback when he is in his own end zone, which is called a safety. When you get a safety for your team you will have scored 2 points.
